Elk Grove, CA - This weekend, the National Republican Campaign Committee released a misleading attack ad designed to distort Dr. Ami Bera’s position on a gas tax and to cover-up Congressman Lungren’s history of supporting the measure himself.

Dr. Ami Bera offered the following comment:

“I do not support a gas tax, and never have because it would be an unfair tax on the middle class. This deceptive ad is a hypocritical attempt to distract from Dan Lungren’s record of supporting the tax himself and protecting Big Oil instead of the people he is supposed to represent. We need new leaders in Washington who will put the people first.”

Elk Grove, CA - President Bill Clinton endorsed Dr. Ami Bera for Congress yesterday, alongside fellow Democratic candidates Congressman John Garamendi, Congressman Jerry McNerney, and Jose Hernandez. The endorsement took place at a rally on the University of California Davis campus attended by thousands of supporters.

Clinton praised Bera for his years helping middle class families in Sacramento County.

"You’ve got Dr. Bera, a product of the American dream,” said Clinton, “a guy who gets into medicine to help other people…a man who believes poor people deserve the same health care that the rest of us get, and believes there are plenty of people who need health care, so medical professionals should worry about giving it to them, rather than controlling women’s choices.”

THE SACRAMENTO BEE ENDORSES DR. AMI BERA FOR CONGRESS

ELK GROVE, CA - The Sacramento Bee endorsed Dr. Ami Bera for California’s 7th Congressional seat today, citing his focus on helping middle class families and his commitment to the concerns of the people of Sacramento County.

“Bera has several qualities that would make him an able representative,” the endorsement reads. “He has obvious expertise in health care, having worked as a UC Davis medical professor and dean of admissions... Compared with Lungren, Bera also exudes more compassion for the plight of the middle class. He says he'd work to end tax policies and subsidies that have widened the gap between the ultra-rich and everyone else. We also think Bera would be a better ‘listener’ than Lungren. He certainly would be a stronger environmental advocate. He'd take seriously the threat of climate change and vote against bills that allow coal and oil companies to further damage the atmosphere. On abortion, he'd be a strong defender of a woman's right to choose.”

DR. AMI BERA COMMENTS ON NEW MISLEADING CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ADS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ELK GROVE, CA - Today, the Chamber of Commerce started airing $484,000 worth of misleading ads on behalf of Congressman Dan Lungren. The ads make the same lies about Medicare and the Affordable Care Act that Congressman Lungren and Republicans nationwide have repeated all year.

Dr. Ami Bera offered the following comment:

“While I’m not surprised that out-of-state special interest groups have come in to aid Dan Lungren with fictitious ads, I didn’t expect the absurd irony of blaming national economic uncertainty on a local doctor, instead of on Washington insiders like Dan Lungren, who got us into this mess in the first place. Attacking me for the Medicare savings that Congressman Lungren voted for twice, and for the uncertain tax situation that Lungren helped create, reveals their desperation to hide Lungren’s votes to privatize Medicare and devastate the middle class.”

ELK GROVE, CA - This week, our region has lost about 1,000 jobs between closure announcements from Campbell's Soup Co. and Comcast. The latest announcement from Campbell's comes on the heels of Tuesday’s debate between Dr. Ami Bera and Congressman Dan Lungren, where Bera explained his ideas to bring jobs to the region immediately, and Lungren failed to layout a meaningful jobs plan saying “Congress doesn’t create jobs.”

Dr. Ami Bera offered the following comment:

“We cannot afford to lose any more jobs when our unemployment rate is already near 11 percent. We need a jobs plan that will keep companies here, and attract new ones to the region, and we need a representative in Congress who can move that plan forward.

Congressman Lungren has failed to deliver on his promises to bring jobs to our region. During Tuesday’s debate, he didn’t mention the levees or other infrastructure projects that would bring jobs here because he has failed to deliver the results we need, instead, rubber stamping the radical House Republican plan to cut funding for these kinds of important projects."

ELK GROVE, CA - During tonight’s debate for California’s 7th Congressional District seat, Dr. Ami Bera made it clear he stands with middle class families, while career politician Dan Lungren stands with big oil and Wall Street.

Born and raised in California, Bera said he was able to pursue the American Dream by working hard and fulfilling his full potential, but he sees that kind of opportunity fading for the current generation.

I’m running for Congress because I believe in the American Dream,” said Bera. “We must restore that dream, and rebuild the middle class, so that all children in our country believe that if they work hard, and play by the rules, they can get ahead.”

ELK GROVE, CA - Today, the National Republican Campaign Committee released a misleading attack ad designed to cover-up Congressman Lungren’s record on Medicare.

Dr. Ami Bera offered the following comment:

“We already knew that Congressman Lungren and his allies were vulnerable, but we didn’t know they were desperate. This misleading ad is a crass and hypocritical attempt to distract from Dan Lungren’s votes to end Medicare as we know it.

The radical Ryan-Lungren plan, which includes the very same Medicare savings referenced in this ad, would give seniors a voucher and expect them to cover the rest. It is government malpractice to leave our seniors without the support they deserve when they need it the most.

ELK GROVE, CA - Today, the Sacramento Bee Editorial Board condemned the Do-nothing 112th Congress.

Dr. Ami Bera offered the following comment:

"Now is the time for bold leaders who will put the people first. Citizens across Sacramento County are sick and tired of the failed leadership and broken promises of career politicians in Washington, DC. That's why I pledge to sponsor the 'No Budget, No Pay' legislation that Congressman Lungren is singlehandedly blocking. This commonsense rule says that if members of Congress don't do their jobs and pass a responsible budget, they don't get paid."

Elk Grove, CA — Today, the White House released specifics on the automatic spending cuts in the Budget Control Act, which will be enacted in 2013 if Congressional inaction continues.

Dr. Ami Bera offered the following comment:

“It is absolutely essential to our national security and well-being that Congress puts people before partisanship and gets us on a fiscally responsible path. Devastating cuts to defense and discretionary spending will occur if Congress remains gridlocked and fails to do its job.
