ELK GROVE, CA - Today at 10 am, Sandra Fluke will join Dr. Ami Bera and Dr. Janine Bera at Bera campaign headquarters in Elk Grove for a rally to kick-off a women's day of action. Fluke is a women's rights activist who moved to the center of the national debate over access to birth control after Congressman Dan Lungren refused to televise her Congressional testimony, opting to only televise an all-male panel. Her eventual remarks were also met with derogatory comments from Rush Limbaugh and other conservative pundits.
The Bera campaign also released a new ad today called "Question." The ad holds Congressman Lungren accountable for his extreme record on women's rights and women's health. You can view the ad below:
The script of the ad follows:
Dr. Bera: "I'm Dr. Ami Bera and I approve this message."
Sue Lutz, ER Nurse: "Congressman Lungren, rape is rape. It leaves scars that I can treat, but others that may never heal. If a survivor gets pregnant, I can't imagine telling her that she doesn't have a choice, that you've made that choice for her. And now you want to change the definition of rape and roll back protections for victims. I have just one question for you, Congressman: why?"
After the rally with Ms. Fluke, Bera supporters will begin an all-day women-to-women phone bank to inform voters about Dr. Bera's commitment to fight for women's rights.
