LUNGREN SAYS HE WANTS TO PRIVATIZE SOCIAL SECURITY...AGAIN!
ELK GROVE, CA -- Today during Congressman Lungren's appearance on KTKZ's The Capital Hour With Eric Hogue, Lungren said yet again that he favored privatizing Social Security. Lungren's quote:
"I have said that we should entertain the possibility that they might be allowed to take a portion of the amount that they have in their account, that is that is credited to them, and allow them to be involved in investments."
During his radio debate with Dr. Bera last week, Dan Lungren reiterated his support for privatization, but, in a bizarre disregard for the facts, stated "I would challenge Dr. Bera to give one instance of where I’ve ever said I would privatize Social Security, it does not exist.”
Dr. Ami Bera responded by releasing this web video of Dan Lungren advocating for privatization of Social Security, and lying to senior citizens about it.
"If we would have followed Dan Lungren and George W. Bush's advice in 2005 and privatized Social Security, it would have been an economic catastrophe for millions of Americans," said Lucinda Guinn, Bera for Congress campaign manager. "Lungren is a career politician who wants to gamble with our retirment in the stock market, because he's looking out for the corporate special interests on Wall Street who line his pockets."
Lungren has a long history of supporting privatization:
- Dan Lungren previously told the Sacramento Bee that he “favors allowing private investment of Social Security contributions and would invest his own contributions if he could.” (Sacramento Bee, 10/17/04)
- Lungren also told the San Francisco Chronicle “You have to show people what it is you’re talking about, my explanation of personal accounts is that these are the only true lockboxes that will prohibit me and other members of Congress from getting our grubby hands on it. That seems to resonate with people.” (San Francisco Chronicle, 3/04/05)
Dr. Ami Bera has taken a pledge to prevent privatization of Social Security and will protect Social Security for current and future recipients.
